Avatar Maker: how to use it

  1. Drop in a photo of yourself, your pet or your logo.
  2. Choose the Shape (circle, rounded square or square) and the Export size in pixels.
  3. Use Zoom and the two Shift sliders to centre your face, add a Background and a Ring if you like, then download.

Tips

  • Most sites show profile pictures as a circle, so keep your face in the middle and leave some space around it.
  • Export at least 400 px. Sites shrink avatars themselves and a larger source stays sharp.

Avatar Maker: what it does and when to use it

The Avatar Maker turns a photo into a profile picture: crop it to a circle, a rounded square or a square, centre your face with the zoom and shift sliders, add a background colour and an optional ring, and export at the exact pixel size a platform asks for.

Most platforms show profile pictures as circles but ask for a square upload, so the circle preview shows how it will really look. Keep your face filling most of the frame, because avatars are shown tiny next to comments and messages. The presets set the right export size for Discord, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, YouTube, X and others.

A higher export size than the platform displays does no harm and looks sharper on high-resolution screens. To cut yourself out and place yourself on a plain or coloured background first, use the Background Remover. For logos, a transparent background keeps the shape clean on light and dark themes.

Avatar Maker: frequently asked questions

How do I make a round profile picture?

Open a photo, zoom and move it so your face is centred in the circle, add a border or background colour if you like, and download a PNG. Transparent corners mean it looks round on any site.

What size should a profile picture be?

Upload at least 400 by 400 pixels for most platforms; the site will shrink it. The sizes for each platform are in our social media image sizes guide.

How do I remove the background from my profile photo?

Cut yourself out with the Background Remover first, then open the result here and put a solid colour behind you.
