Tips
- Phone photos can contain GPS coordinates of where they were taken. Check first with the EXIF Viewer if you want to see what was there.
- The rotation tag is metadata too. If a photo shows sideways after cleaning, choose Re-encode as JPG, which saves the pixels the right way up.
Metadata Remover: what it does and when to use it
The Metadata Remover strips EXIF and other embedded data from a photo: GPS location, camera serial details, dates, editing software and author fields. The default output removes the metadata blocks from the file and leaves the image data untouched, so there is no loss of quality at all. Re-encoding as JPEG or PNG is the alternative, which starts again from the pixels alone.
Use it before posting photos to marketplaces, forums, dating sites or anywhere a stranger can download the original file, and before sending photos of your home, your children or your car. It also shrinks files slightly, since metadata and embedded thumbnails take space.
Removing metadata does not remove what is visible in the picture: a street sign, a house number or a reflection can reveal as much as GPS data. Check the photo itself, and cover details with Pixelate & Censor where needed. The EXIF Viewer shows what a photo contains before and after.

What does stripping metadata actually remove?
The EXIF block, which typically carries the camera make and model, the exact date and time, the lens and exposure settings, and on a phone photo the GPS coordinates of where it was taken. The pixels are untouched; only the tags attached to them are removed.
Do social networks strip this for me?
Most large platforms do strip EXIF on upload, but not all of them, not on every upload path, and not on the original file if someone downloads it from a link you shared directly. Stripping it yourself before it leaves your device is the only way to be sure.
How do I remove location data from a photo?

Does sending a photo on WhatsApp remove the location?
