Colour Replacer: how to use it
- Drop in an image.
- Pick Replace this colour and With this colour.
- Set the Tolerance to catch lighter and darker shades of the colour, and keep Keep the original shading ticked so the result still looks real. Then download.
Tips
- Works best on a colour that appears only in the thing you want to change, such as a red car on a green street.
- To keep one colour and turn everything else grey instead, use Color Splash.
- For a step-by-step walkthrough with a tolerance table, read How to change the color of an object in a photo.
Colour Replacer: what it does and when to use it
The Colour Replacer finds every pixel close to one colour and changes it to another. Tolerance decides how far from the chosen colour a pixel can be and still count, so lighter and darker shades of the same colour, in shadow and in highlight, are included.
With Keep the original shading ticked, each replaced pixel keeps its own brightness, so a red car becomes a believable blue car with its reflections and shadows intact, rather than a flat blue shape. That makes it useful for trying colour variations of a product, recolouring an icon or logo, or matching a graphic to a brand colour.
It changes the colour everywhere in the image, not just on one object; if the same colour appears elsewhere, it changes too. Very dark and very light areas carry little colour, so they respond weakly. To keep only one colour and grey out the rest, use the Color Splash Effect; to swap a flat background colour for transparency, use the Chroma Key Remover.
Colour Replacer: frequently asked questions
Is the Colour Replacer free, and do I need to sign up?
Yes, the Colour Replacer is 100% free with no sign-up, no login and no account. The Colour Replacer runs in your browser, so it has no daily limit and no upload, and saves at full size with no watermark. See why it is free.
How do I change the colour of something in a photo?
Pick the colour to change and the new colour, then adjust the tolerance until only the right area changes. Shading and folds are kept, so clothes and objects still look real. Related tool: Chroma Key Remover.
How do I change the colour of a logo?
Pick the logo colour and set a low tolerance so only that exact colour changes. For a logo you also want as a vector, trace it afterwards with the SVG Vectorizer.
Why did other parts of the photo change colour too?
Anything with a similar colour is included. Lower the tolerance, or do the change on a copy and remove unwanted areas with the Selection Tools.
