ImgVX AI docs: how to use every free image tool
The complete user guide to ImgVX AI, the free online image editor with 114 tools: 91 classic tools for resizing, compressing, cropping, converting and retouching, and 23 AI tools for background removal, upscaling, object removal and photo restoration that run on your own device. This page covers what no single tool page does: browsers, file formats, limits, AI model downloads, presets, the Studio, privacy and troubleshooting.
Getting started in under a minute
Every tool works the same way, whether it is a simple resize or an AI background removal.
- Pick the job, not the app. Find the tool on the home page or in all tools; each one does one thing, like the Image Compressor or the Background Remover. The image editing FAQ maps common questions to the right tool.
- Add your image. Drag it onto the drop zone, click choose a file, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V (⌘+V on a Mac). On a phone, tap to pick from Photos, Files or the camera.
- Adjust and preview. Settings update the preview straight away. AI tools have a button to start the model; the first run downloads it (see AI models).
- Download. The file is saved by your browser like any other download: the Downloads folder on a computer, or Photos or Files on a phone.
Need several edits on one photo, such as crop, then brighten, then remove the background, then compress? Use the ImgVX AI Studio instead of downloading between tools. Need the same edit on many photos? The Bulk Image Resizer resizes and converts a whole folder into one zip.
How the tools work: classic vs AI
There are two kinds of tools on ImgVX AI, and both run in your browser.
Classic tools (91)
Resizing, compression, cropping, format conversion, filters, levels and curves, text, watermarks, metadata and OCR. These follow a fixed formula: the same image and settings always give the same result, and they are fast on any device. They are marked Free.
AI tools (23)
Open-source neural networks that predict a result: a cut-out mask, a sharper enlargement, a filled-in area, plausible colour. The model downloads to your browser once and runs on your graphics card through WebGPU, or on the processor through WebAssembly. They are marked AI, and like every tool they are free with no sign-up and download at full resolution.
No prompts, no generation
ImgVX AI edits photos you already have. There is no text-to-image generation, no "describe your edit" box, and no tool that reshapes faces or bodies. The acceptable use policy explains why.
Honest limits
AI can make a small photo look sharper, but it cannot recover detail that was never captured; see how to unblur a photo. Colours added to an old photo are a plausible guess, not a record.

Any current browser works. What changes is speed.

Keep the tab in front while an AI tool runs: browsers slow down background tabs, and the PDF to Image renderer pauses entirely in a hidden tab. A private or incognito window works, but it forgets downloaded AI models when it closes, so each visit downloads them again.

Open almost anything a camera, phone or website produces; save in the format the destination accepts.

RAW camera files (CR3, NEF, ARW, DNG) and Photoshop PSD files are not supported; export them to JPEG or TIFF from the camera software first. Each AI tool downloads an open-source model the first time you use it. Your browser keeps it, so the next run starts straight away.

Tools that share a model share the download: after the Background Remover has run once, the Background Replacer, Portrait Blur and Passport Photo Maker start without downloading again. The AI runtime (ONNX Runtime Web and Transformers.js) loads from the jsDelivr CDN at a pinned version, and models load from Hugging Face or our own mirror at a pinned commit. Your photo is never part of those requests.
Presets and deep links
Many tools have presets: one click sets the exact size, file-size target, format or effect. Each preset also has its own link, so you can bookmark it or send it to someone.
A preset link is the tool's address plus ?preset= and the preset name. For example, /image-compressor/?preset=to-100kb opens the compressor with a 100 KB target already set. The most used ones:

ImgVX AI Studio: all tools on one canvas
The Studio is the closest thing on ImgVX AI to a desktop photo editor: every tool sits in a searchable rail around one image.
- Open an image with New image, by dropping it on the page, or by pasting it.
- Pick a tool from the rail or search for it, adjust, then press Apply to keep the change. Nothing is applied until you do.
- Undo and redo with Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z (⌘+Z and ⌘+Shift+Z on a Mac), or the arrow buttons.
- Compare with the Original and Edited switch above the canvas.
- Save once at the end with Save & Download as PNG, JPG or WebP.
The Studio has no layers or masks: each tool changes the whole image or the area you paint. For layered design work, a desktop editor is the better choice; the free Photoshop alternative guide covers when to use which.
Using ImgVX AI on iPhone and Android
- Open any tool in Safari or Chrome; tap the drop zone to choose from Photos, Files or the camera.
- Downloads go to the Downloads folder or Files. On iPhone, open the file and use Share, then Save Image, to put it in Photos.
- For iPhone photos that will not upload elsewhere, convert them with HEIC to JPG, or set Settings, Camera, Formats to Most Compatible.
- Download AI models on Wi-Fi; the colorizer and alt text models are over 100 MB.
- The Studio opens as a full-screen editor on phones, with categories along the bottom.
Privacy and data: what stays on your device
Your images
Decoded, edited and saved inside your browser. They are not uploaded to ImgVX AI or to anyone else, including by the AI tools.
No account
There is no sign-up or login, so ImgVX AI never has your name, email address or a password. Visits and tool uses are counted as anonymous daily totals.
Ads and analytics
Pages show Google AdSense ads (none in the Studio) and, in countries with an Amazon store, Amazon product links, and use Google Analytics, with consent controls in the footer. Details in the privacy policy.
Photos also carry hidden data such as GPS location. Check it with the EXIF Viewer and strip it with the Metadata Remover before sharing; the EXIF and privacy guide explains which sites remove it for you.
Troubleshooting common problems

How do I use ImgVX AI?
Open the tool for the job from the list of tools, drop a photo onto the page (or tap to choose one on a phone), adjust the settings and press Download. There is nothing to install and nothing to sign up for: no account, no login, no email address. For several edits on one picture, open the ImgVX AI Studio, which keeps every tool around one canvas with undo.
Is ImgVX AI safe to use?
Yes. The tools run inside your own browser, so the photo you edit is not uploaded to ImgVX AI or anyone else; the privacy policy lists exactly what is sent and when (anonymous visit and tool-use counts, and what ads and analytics collect). There are no accounts, so there is no password or email to leak. Only edit photos you own or have permission to edit, as the acceptable use policy explains.
Does ImgVX AI work offline?
Partly. A tool needs a connection to load its page, and an AI tool needs one the first time to download its model. After that the editing itself happens on your device, so a dropped Wi-Fi signal does not interrupt an edit in progress. The model sizes table shows what each AI tool downloads.
What is the largest image ImgVX AI can edit?
There is no file-size cap, but a photo over about 40 megapixels is scaled down to fit the browser's memory before editing, and the page says when that happens. The Image Upscaler also refuses results too big for a browser to hold rather than crashing the tab. A phone has less memory than a laptop, so very large panoramas are best edited on a computer.
Why is an AI tool stuck on downloading the model?
The first run downloads the model, from about 5 MB for the upscaler to about 220 MB for the Alt Text Generator. On a slow or metered connection that takes a while; use Wi-Fi, keep the tab in front, and do not use a private window, which forgets the download when it closes. If it fails, reload the page and try again: the browser keeps the parts it already has.
Why did my transparent PNG get a white or black background?
The file was saved as JPEG somewhere along the way, and JPEG cannot store transparency. Download as PNG or WebP instead, and check that the site you upload to keeps transparency. The guide to transparent images lists which apps keep it and which fill it in.
Why is my compressed image bigger than the original?
The original was already compressed harder than the setting you chose, or you converted a JPEG photo to PNG, which is lossless and usually several times larger. Lower the quality or set a target size in the Image Compressor, keep photos as JPEG or WebP, and resize first if the dimensions are larger than you need.
Is ImgVX AI free, and do I need an account?

Which browsers does ImgVX AI support?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android. Browsers with WebGPU, such as current Chrome and Edge on a computer, run the AI tools on the graphics card and are noticeably faster; the others run them on the processor through WebAssembly. Can I use ImgVX AI on a Chromebook or a school computer?
Yes. Everything runs in the Chrome browser, so it works on Chromebooks and on locked-down school or work computers where you cannot install software. The AI tools are slower on low-cost Chromebooks; the classic tools such as the Image Resizer and Image Compressor are quick on any of them.
I paid for Pro before. What now?
Pro and credit packs were sold until 23 October 2026; everything they paid for is now free for everyone, and subscriptions are being cancelled so nothing renews. Refunds follow the refund policy, and you can contact us about any charge.

Email us from the contact page with the tool, the browser and device, and what you expected to happen. A sample image helps if you are happy to share it; we never see your images otherwise, because they never leave your device.
