Base64 to Image: how to use it

  1. Paste a base64 string or a full data URI into the box, or drop a .txt file that contains one.
  2. Press Decode.
  3. Check the preview and download the image in its original format.

Tips

  • A data URI starts with data:image/png;base64, or similar. Raw base64 without that prefix works as well.
  • If you drop an actual image here by mistake, the tool tells you and points you to Image to Base64.

Base64 to Image: what it does and when to use it

This is the reverse of Image to Base64: paste a base64 string or a full data URI, as found in HTML source, CSS files, API responses or email templates, and it is decoded back into a normal image file you can see and download.

The tool reads the first bytes of the decoded data to tell what kind of image it is, so a PNG comes back as a PNG and a JPEG as a JPEG even when the string has no data URI header saying so. A text file containing the string can be dropped in instead of pasting, which helps with long strings that are awkward to copy.

If decoding fails, the usual causes are a string that was cut off while copying, stray quote marks or line breaks from the source code, or text that is not base64 at all, such as a URL. Decoding happens in your browser, so strings pulled from private systems are not sent anywhere.

Usually because it was cut off, contains line breaks or quotes from the code it was copied from, or is not an image at all. Copy the whole value between the quotes and try again. Related tool: Image Converter.
