Signature Extractor: how to use it
- Sign plain white paper with a dark pen and photograph it in good light, filling the frame.
- Drop in the photo. Raise Ink sensitivity if faint strokes are missing, lower it if the paper texture shows.
- Pick the ink colour, keep Crop to the signature ticked and download the transparent PNG.
Tips
- A felt-tip or gel pen photographs far better than a light ballpoint.
- Bolder thickens thin strokes that would disappear when the signature is printed small.
Signature Extractor: what it does and when to use it
The Signature Extractor turns a photo or scan of your handwritten signature into a transparent PNG you can place on a PDF, a contract, an invoice or an email footer. Sign a sheet of plain white paper with a dark pen, photograph it with your phone, and drop the photo in: the paper disappears and only the ink is left, cropped close.
Phone photos of paper are never evenly lit, so the tool measures the brightness of the paper across the page and compares each stroke to the paper right around it. That is why a shadow from your hand or a darker corner does not turn into grey smudges. Ink sensitivity picks up fainter strokes, Edge softness keeps the lines smooth rather than jagged, and the ink can be recoloured to black, blue or any colour.
A picture of a signature is not a digital signature. Pasting it into a document shows your name in your hand, but it does not prove who placed it there; for agreements that need that, use the signing step of an e-signature service. Use this tool for your own signature only. Everything runs in your browser, so the signature image is never uploaded.
Signature Extractor: frequently asked questions
How do I make my signature transparent?
Sign white paper with a dark pen, take a photo from straight above in good light, and drop it here. The paper is removed, the signature is cropped, and you download a transparent PNG to place on a document.
Why are parts of my signature missing?
The strokes were too faint compared with the paper. Raise Ink sensitivity, or re-photograph it with a darker pen and more light. Choose Bolder line weight if thin strokes disappear when the signature is printed small.
Is an image of my signature legally binding?
Pasting a picture of your signature shows your name in your hand, but it does not prove who put it there. Many everyday documents accept it; for contracts that need a verifiable signature, use the signing step of an e-signature service. Related tool: Make Background Transparent.
How do I add my signature to a PDF?
Make the transparent PNG here, then insert it as an image in your PDF editor, or add it to a document and save that as PDF. To turn photos into a PDF in the browser, use Image to PDF.
