Perspective Corrector: how to use it

  1. Drop in a photo of a document, a screen, a painting or a building.
  2. Drag the four dots onto its four corners. Snap to edges helps them find the corners.
  3. Press Straighten. The area is squared up and stretched to fill the frame.

Tips

  • For documents, shoot from as straight above as you can. The less correction needed, the sharper the result.
  • Reset handles puts the dots back if you want to start again.
  • Our phone scanning guide covers light and focus for clean scans.

Perspective Corrector: what it does and when to use it

When you photograph a document, a whiteboard, a painting or a building at an angle, rectangles come out as trapezoids. The Perspective Corrector takes the four corners you mark and remaps the image so that area becomes a true rectangle filling the frame, as if you had been standing square in front of it.

Snap to edges helps each handle find a nearby corner. For documents, put the corners exactly on the paper corners and the text becomes straight and readable; for a painting, put them on the corners of the canvas rather than the frame. Photos of buildings look most natural when you straighten the verticals and leave a little of the original perspective.

Stretching a steeply angled area stretches its pixels too, so the far end of a long, shallow shot comes out softer than the near end. Take the photo as square-on as you can and fill the frame with the subject. Our guide to scanning documents with your phone covers the rest, and Image to PDF turns the result into a document.

Perspective Corrector: frequently asked questions

Is the Perspective Corrector free, and do I need to sign up?

Yes, the Perspective Corrector is 100% free with no sign-up, no login and no account. The Perspective Corrector runs in your browser, so it has no daily limit and no upload, and saves at full size with no watermark. See why it is free.

How do I straighten a photo of a document?

Drag the four corner points onto the corners of the page and download. The page is stretched back into a flat rectangle, as if it had been scanned. Then whiten it with Levels and Curves and save it as a PDF with Image to PDF.

How do I fix leaning buildings in a photo?

Place the corners on a rectangle in the building, such as the edges of the facade, and the vertical lines become straight. Leave space around the building when you take the photo, because correcting the lean crops the edges.

Can I scan a whiteboard or receipt with my phone?

Yes. Photograph it straight on in good light, open the photo here, and pull the corners into place. Our guide to scanning with your phone has more tips.
