Image to Prompt: how to use it

  1. Drop in a photo, drawing or screenshot.
  2. Choose the image generator you will use and the length, then press Write the prompt.
  3. Copy the prompt (and the negative prompt for Stable Diffusion) and paste it into your generator.

Tips

  • Add what the description cannot know, such as the mood you want or a style name, before you generate.
  • The first run downloads the description model once, about 220 MB; it is shared with the Alt Text Generator.

Image to Prompt: what it does and when to use it

Image to Prompt looks at a picture and writes a prompt you can paste into an AI image generator: Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, Flux, ChatGPT, DALL-E or Gemini. It is the quickest way to learn how a look is described, to make variations of your own photo or drawing, or to get a starting point when you know what you want but not the words for it.

Florence-2, an open-source vision model, describes what is in the picture, running in your browser so the image is never uploaded. ImgVX AI then measures what a caption usually leaves out: the brightness and contrast, warm or cool light, how saturated the colours are, the main colours, and the shape of the frame. Each generator gets the format it reads best: a sentence plus --ar for Midjourney, comma-separated tags and a negative prompt for Stable Diffusion and Flux, and plain instructions for ChatGPT.

A prompt describes a picture; it does not copy it. Generators make a new image in the same spirit, never the same one, and they guess at faces, text and exact layouts. Edit the prompt to say what matters to you, such as the mood or the camera angle. For alt text, a title and keywords for a website rather than a generator prompt, use the Alt Text Generator.

Image to Prompt: frequently asked questions

How do I get a prompt from an image?

Drop the image in, choose your generator and press Write the prompt. An AI model on your device describes the picture, and the tool adds its colours, light and aspect ratio in the format that generator reads best. Copy it and paste it into Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, Flux or ChatGPT.

Will the generator make the same picture?

No. A prompt describes a picture in words, and a generator makes a new image from them, so you get something in the same spirit, not a copy. Faces, exact text and precise layouts are the things that change most. Related tool: Alt Text Generator.

Is my image uploaded to make the prompt?

No. The description model runs in your browser, on your own device, and the picture never leaves it. The prompt is plain text you copy yourself.

What is a negative prompt?

A list of things you do not want, which Stable Diffusion and Flux tools accept in a separate box: blurry, watermark, text and so on. Midjourney uses --no instead, and ChatGPT reads plain sentences, so those prompts have none. Related tool: AI Object Detector.
