App Icon Generator: how to use it

  1. Drop in a square logo, ideally 1024 × 1024 or larger.
  2. Choose the background colour and padding, and whether Android and web icons keep transparency.
  3. Download the ZIP and copy each folder into your Xcode, Android Studio or web project.

Tips

  • Leave 10 to 15% padding so the logo is not cut off by rounded corners.
  • Check the small sizes in the preview: a logo with fine text becomes unreadable at 48 pixels.

App Icon Generator: what it does and when to use it

The App Icon Generator turns one square logo into every icon an app needs: the 1024 pixel App Store icon and the iPhone and iPad sizes for iOS, the five launcher densities and adaptive-icon foregrounds for Android, the 512 pixel Google Play icon, and the 192 and 512 pixel manifest icons, a maskable icon and an Apple touch icon for a web app or PWA. Everything comes back in one ZIP.

The folders match what the tools expect: an AppIcon.appiconset with its Contents.json to drop into Xcode's asset catalogue, mipmap folders to copy into Android Studio's res folder, and a web folder with a manifest snippet. Padding shrinks the logo inside the icon, and the background colour fills iOS icons, which Apple rejects if they are transparent. Adaptive and maskable icons keep the logo inside the safe zone that launchers crop to.

Start from a square logo of at least 1024 pixels, a PNG with a transparent background if you have one. Small or rectangular images are centred and cropped to a square, and anything below 1024 pixels is enlarged, which can soften it. The work happens in your browser, so an unreleased logo stays private. For website favicons in .ico format, use the Favicon Generator.

App Icon Generator: frequently asked questions

How do I make app icons for iOS and Android from one image?

Drop a square logo in, choose a background colour and padding, and download the ZIP. It has an AppIcon.appiconset for Xcode, mipmap folders for Android Studio, a 512 pixel Play Store icon and web manifest icons.

What size should my app icon be?

Start from 1024 × 1024 pixels: that is the App Store size, and every smaller icon is made from it. Xcode 14 and later only need the single 1024 icon; older projects and Android need the full set, which this tool makes.

Why is my iOS icon not transparent?

Apple rejects app icons with transparency, so iOS icons are always filled with your background colour. Android and web icons keep transparency if you leave that box ticked.

Can I use it for a Flutter or React Native app?

Yes. Both use the native iOS and Android icon folders: copy AppIcon.appiconset into ios/Runner/Assets.xcassets (Flutter) or your iOS project, and the mipmap folders into android/app/src/main/res.
