QR Code Generator: how to use it

  1. Choose the Type: a link or text, a Wi-Fi network, an email address or a phone number.
  2. Type the link or text, or for Wi-Fi the network name, password and security.
  3. Pick the colours, the dots and the size, and drop a logo on the box if you want one in the middle.
  4. Press Make QR code, scan it with your phone to check it, then download the PNG or the SVG.

Tips

  • Keep the code dark on a light background. Light-on-dark and low-contrast codes fail on many phone cameras.
  • Use the SVG for print: it stays sharp at any size. Print a code at least 2 cm (about 0.8 in) across, bigger if it will be scanned from a distance.
  • Short links make smaller, easier-to-scan codes than long ones.

QR Code Generator: what it does and when to use it

The QR Code Generator makes a code for a link, plain text, a Wi-Fi network, an email address or a phone number, in your own colours, with square modules or round dots and, if you like, your logo in the middle. Download it as a PNG of up to 4096 pixels or as an SVG that stays sharp at any print size.

A QR code stores the text itself, so these codes are static: they never expire, need no account, count no scans and keep working whatever happens to this site. Wi-Fi codes use the standard format phones read to offer to join the network, so guests do not have to type the password. When you add a logo, error correction is raised to High (30%), which lets scanners read the code even though the logo covers part of it.

Everything is encoded in your browser, so Wi-Fi passwords and private links never leave your device. Always scan the finished code with a phone before printing it. To prepare a logo first, remove its background with Make Background Transparent; for app and website icons, see the App Icon Generator.

QR Code Generator: frequently asked questions

Do these QR codes expire?

No. The code stores your link or text itself, not a redirect through our site, so it keeps working for as long as the link it points to does. There is no account, subscription or scan limit. Related tool: App Icon Generator.

How do I make a QR code with a logo?

Type your link, then drop your logo image on the box above the settings and press Make QR code. Error correction is raised to High so the code still scans with the logo covering its middle. Scan it with your phone before you print it.

How do I make a QR code for Wi-Fi?

Choose Wi-Fi network as the Type, enter the network name, password and security, and make the code. Phones that scan it offer to join the network. The password stays on your device; it is never uploaded.

How big should a printed QR code be?

At least 2 cm (about 0.8 in) across for a code scanned from close up. A rough rule is one tenth of the scanning distance: a poster read from 2 metres needs a code about 20 cm across. Use the SVG so it prints sharply at any size.
