AI Photo Enhancer: Fix Blurry, Grainy and Low-Quality Photos
To improve a photo’s quality, run it through an AI enhancer that removes noise and compression and restores fine texture. The free AI Photo Enhancer does this on your device. Its Pro AI version sends the photo to Google’s Nano Banana on Vertex AI with one instruction: make it cleaner and sharper, but keep it the same photo, with nothing added, removed or restyled.
AI Photo Enhancer: the short answer
- Dull, slightly soft or compressed photos: start with the free version.
- Grainy low-light shots and heavily compressed images: Pro AI, “Taken in low light” or “Soft or compressed” (10 credits).
- Small photos: use the Image Upscaler instead, or as well.
- Badly out-of-focus or shaken photos cannot truly be fixed.
What people search for, answered
How do I fix a blurry photo?
Find out why it is blurry first. Small, compressed or slightly soft photos can be made much clearer with the AI Photo Enhancer or the Image Upscaler. Photos that are badly out of focus or smeared by movement have lost the detail for good. Our guide on how to unblur a photo shows how to tell.
How can I improve the quality of a picture online for free?
Open the AI Photo Enhancer, add the picture and download the result; the free version runs in your browser with no upload. For hard photos, Pro AI runs Google’s Nano Banana for 10 credits.
How do I fix a grainy photo taken at night?
Grain is noise from a camera working in little light. Choose “Taken in low light” in the Pro AI panel: the model removes the noise while keeping edges, rather than smearing the whole picture. The free Noise Reducer is a lighter option.
Is there a Remini alternative that does not change faces?
Yes. Apps like Remini redraw faces to make them look sharper, which can make someone look like a different person. The ImgVX enhancer is told to keep people exactly as they are; it cleans the whole photo but does not beautify or redraw faces.
How do I make a picture clearer on iPhone or Android?
Open the AI Photo Enhancer in Safari or Chrome on the phone, pick the photo from your library and save the result back. The Pro AI version runs on Google’s servers, so it is just as quick on an older phone.
Why use ImgVX Pro AI for it
- Google’s Nano Banana on Vertex AI, a large image model that understands what the scene is, so it restores texture (fabric, leaves, brick) rather than just sharpening edges.
- It keeps your photo your photo. The instruction forbids adding, removing or moving anything, and people are left as they are.
- Three modes for the three common problems: any photo, low light, and soft or compressed.
- Failed runs cost nothing. If Google returns an error or a safety filter stops the image, the credits go straight back to your account.
- No app, no watermark. It runs from the page in any modern browser on a phone or computer, and the download carries no ImgVX watermark. Google adds its invisible SynthID mark to AI images, which is how AI content should be labelled.
Free version or Pro AI?
The AI Photo Enhancer page has two versions of the tool. Try the free one first: if it is good enough, you have spent nothing.
| Free (on your device) | Pro AI (Google Vertex AI) | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | In your browser; the photo never leaves your device | Google Vertex AI; the photo is sent to Google for that run only |
| Model | A compact open-source model | Google Nano Banana (Gemini image) on Vertex AI |
| Cost | Free with a free account | 10 paid credits a run |
| Best for | Slightly soft, dull or lightly compressed photos | Grainy low-light shots, heavy compression and photos the free version cannot fix |
How to use the AI Photo Enhancer, step by step
- Open the AI Photo Enhancer and choose the photo.
- Try the free enhance first.
- If it needs more, choose a mode in “Pro AI” (Any photo, Taken in low light, or Soft or compressed) and press Run Pro AI.
- Hold “see the original” to compare, then download.
Tips for better results
- Start from the original file, not a copy saved from a messaging app, which has been compressed.
- If a photo is small as well as soft, enhance it first and then upscale.
- For old printed photos with scratches and fading, start with the free Photo Restorer.
What it will not do
- It does not change people: no face smoothing, slimming or beautifying.
- It does not add things that were not there, so a face too blurry to recognise stays unrecognisable.
- Every typed description is checked by our payment provider’s moderation service before Google sees it, and Google’s own safety filters run on every image. Anything in our Acceptable Use Policy (sexual content, anything involving minors, deepfakes, fake documents, removing watermarks) is refused before any credits are used.
What it costs
Pro AI runs on paid credits only, because every run costs us money on Google Cloud: the AI Photo Enhancer uses 10 credits a run. Pro Monthly is $5.90 a month with 300 credits (your first month is $1), enough for about 30 runs. Pro Yearly is $39.99 a year with 4,000 credits. With no subscription, a credit pack of 50 is $4.99 and 200 is $12.99. The free trial credits do not cover Pro AI, and an account’s Pro AI use is capped by what it has paid, so the $1 first month covers only a few runs. See pricing.
Your photo is sent to Google Vertex AI for that run and is not stored by us; we keep a log of the run (tool, time, credits and any text you typed). The privacy policy has the details.
Frequently asked questions
Is the AI Photo Enhancer free?
The on-device version is free with a free account. The Pro AI version runs on Google Vertex AI and uses 10 paid credits a run, refunded if the run fails.
Will the enhancer change faces?
No. It is told to keep people exactly as they are. Edits to faces, bodies, hair or clothes are not offered. More help: ImgVX AI help docs.
Can it fix a photo that is out of focus?
Only slightly. Detail that the camera never captured cannot be brought back; the enhancer can make it look cleaner, not sharp. Browse: all free image tools.
Does it make the photo bigger?
The result comes back at about 2K. To make a small photo larger with detail, use the Image Upscaler.
Is my photo kept?
No. It is sent to Google Vertex AI for that run and not stored by us. More help: ImgVX AI help docs.
