AI Sky Replacement: Turn a Grey Sky Blue, Sunset or Starry
To replace the sky in a photo, open the Sky Replacer, choose a new sky and download. The free version finds the sky with a depth model on your device and blends in a new one. Pro AI asks Google’s Nano Banana on Vertex AI to replace only the sky and then adjust the light and colour of the whole scene to match, so a sunset sky also warms the buildings under it.
Sky Replacer: the short answer
- Simple horizon, blue sky: the free version.
- Sunset, night or a described sky with the scene relit to match: Pro AI (10 credits).
- Real estate: check your MLS rules; some require edited photos to be labelled.
- If there is no sky in the photo, Pro AI returns it unchanged.
What people search for, answered
How do I replace the sky in a photo?
Open the Sky Replacer, choose the photo and pick a sky. The free version swaps it on your device. In the Pro AI panel, pick Blue with clouds, Sunset, Starry night, Stormy or Soft overcast, or type your own sky, and press Run Pro AI.
How do I make a grey sky blue in a photo?
Choose “Blue with clouds”. Pro AI also brightens and warms the scene slightly to match, because a grey day and a blue day light a landscape differently.
Is sky replacement allowed in real estate photos?
Usually yes, as long as it does not misrepresent the property. Many MLSs and portals allow sky replacement but ban hiding defects, and some ask that virtually edited photos be labelled. Our real estate photo editing guide covers the rules.
How do I add a sunset to a photo?
Choose “Sunset”, or describe it (“a deep orange sunset with pink clouds”). A believable sunset needs the whole scene to turn warm; Pro AI adjusts the light to match.
Can I replace the sky on my phone?
Yes, in the phone’s browser, with no app. Pro AI runs on Google’s servers.
Why use ImgVX Pro AI for it
- The scene is relit, not just the sky swapped. The model adjusts the light and colour of the whole photo to match the new sky.
- Everything below the horizon stays put: buildings, trees and people keep their place and shape.
- Presets or your own words, from “soft overcast” to “pink cotton-candy clouds”.
- Failed runs cost nothing. If Google returns an error or a safety filter stops the image, the credits go straight back to your account.
- No app, no watermark. It runs from the page in any modern browser on a phone or computer, and the download carries no ImgVX watermark. Google adds its invisible SynthID mark to AI images, which is how AI content should be labelled.
Free version or Pro AI?
The Sky Replacer page has two versions of the tool. Try the free one first: if it is good enough, you have spent nothing.
| Free (on your device) | Pro AI (Google Vertex AI) | |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | In your browser; the photo never leaves your device | Google Vertex AI; the photo is sent to Google for that run only |
| Model | A compact open-source model | Google Nano Banana (Gemini image) on Vertex AI |
| Cost | Free with a free account | 10 paid credits a run |
| Best for | Landscapes with a clear horizon and a simple blue sky | Sunsets and night skies with matching light, tricky horizons, trees against the sky |
How to use the Sky Replacer, step by step
- Open the Sky Replacer and choose the photo.
- In “Pro AI”, pick a sky or describe one.
- Press Run Pro AI (10 credits).
- Compare with the original and download.
Tips for better results
- Match the sky to the time of day of the shadows: a midday photo with long sunset shadows looks wrong.
- Thin branches against the sky are the hardest part; check them at 100 percent.
- For property photos, keep it believable: a plausible blue sky, not a dramatic sunset at noon.
What it will not do
- It does not change people in the photo.
- It does not remove objects; use the Object Eraser for power lines or cranes.
- Every typed description is checked by our payment provider’s moderation service before Google sees it, and Google’s own safety filters run on every image. Anything in our Acceptable Use Policy (sexual content, anything involving minors, deepfakes, fake documents, removing watermarks) is refused before any credits are used.
What it costs
Pro AI runs on paid credits only, because every run costs us money on Google Cloud: the Sky Replacer uses 10 credits a run. Pro Monthly is $5.90 a month with 300 credits (your first month is $1), enough for about 30 runs. Pro Yearly is $39.99 a year with 4,000 credits. With no subscription, a credit pack of 50 is $4.99 and 200 is $12.99. The free trial credits do not cover Pro AI, and an account’s Pro AI use is capped by what it has paid, so the $1 first month covers only a few runs. See pricing.
Your photo is sent to Google Vertex AI for that run and is not stored by us; we keep a log of the run (tool, time, credits and any text you typed). The privacy policy has the details.
