Image Resizer: how to use it

  1. Drop in the image you want to resize.
  2. Type a new Width or Height in pixels. With Keep aspect ratio ticked, the other side follows automatically so nothing is stretched.
  3. Choose Save as. Same as original keeps the format you uploaded; pick JPG, PNG or WebP to change it.
  4. Download the resized copy.

Tips

  • To fill an exact size such as 1080 × 1350 without stretching, crop to that shape first with the Image Cropper, then resize.
  • Making an image bigger cannot add real detail. For enlarging, the AI upscaler gives a sharper result than plain resizing.
  • The presets above the tool fill in the sizes for common platforms. Our social media sizes guide lists them all, and YouTube thumbnail size covers the current YouTube 16:9 rules and how to crop a photo to 1280 × 720 without stretching it.

Image Resizer: what it does and when to use it

Resizing changes how many pixels an image has. Going smaller, the browser averages groups of pixels into one with its high-quality smoothing, which usually looks as sharp as the original or sharper, and the file shrinks with it. Going larger, new pixels have to be estimated from their neighbours, so edges soften: a resize can never add detail that was not captured.

With Keep aspect ratio on, you type one side and the other is worked out, so faces and circles stay the right shape. Unticking it lets you force both numbers, which stretches the picture if the shape does not match. For exact sizes like 1080 × 1350, crop to that shape first and then resize, or pick one of the platform presets, which set the numbers for you.

Use this tool when a site rejects an upload for its dimensions, or to make a photo lighter before emailing it. To enlarge a small picture, the AI Image Upscaler predicts edges and texture instead of just smoothing, and usually looks noticeably better than a plain resize. For many files at once, the Bulk Image Resizer does the same job on a whole folder.

Image Resizer: frequently asked questions

Is the Image Resizer free, and do I need to sign up?

Yes, the Image Resizer is 100% free with no sign-up, no login and no account. The Image Resizer runs in your browser, so it has no daily limit and no upload, and saves at full size with no watermark. See why it is free.

Will resizing make my image blurry?

Making an image smaller is safe and usually looks sharper than the original. Making it larger is not: the extra pixels have to be invented by interpolation, and the result is soft. If you need a genuinely bigger image, start from the largest original you have rather than enlarging a small one. Related guide: How to resize an image without losing quality.

What is the difference between resizing and cropping?

Resizing changes the pixel dimensions of the whole image and keeps everything in frame. Cropping throws away the parts outside a selection and keeps the remaining pixels at their original size. To hit an exact size without distortion you usually crop to the right shape first, then resize.

Does resizing keep the aspect ratio?

By default yes: set one dimension and the other follows, so nothing is stretched. You can unlock it and set both independently, which will squash or stretch the picture. If you need an exact width and height from a differently shaped source, crop to that shape first.

How do I resize an image to a specific size in pixels?

Type the width and height you need. Keep the aspect ratio locked to avoid stretching; if the shape does not match, crop to that shape first with the Image Cropper. Our aspect ratio guide lists the common shapes. For a square 300 by 300 picture, see how to resize an image to 300x300.

How do I resize an image for Instagram, Facebook or YouTube?

Use a platform preset on this page and the exact size is filled in. The current sizes for every major platform are in our social media image sizes guide. To post a whole photo without cropping, use No Crop.

Can I resize many images at once?

Yes, with the Bulk Image Resizer: drop a folder of photos and download them all resized in one zip file.
